Bruno Tocanne
Assurely a good thing for everyone who like to be surprised and shaked up !
"French drummer Bruno Tocanne created the imuZZic network ten years ago. He has developed different bands with it. For several years, he established a
transatlantic musical partnership in playing with canadian saxophonist Quinsin Nachoff, trumpet player Russ Johnson and canadian bassist Michael Bates.
The quartet called "new songs", is a newest group where Bruno Tocanne is joined by the french trumpet player Rémi Gaudillat, a distinguished member of
the imuZZic community, and swiss trombonist Samuel Blaser, well-known for his outstanding ability to renew the art of trombone and the double bass
player Michael Bates.Between formal writing and improvisation, the four musicians undertake a work on complex melodic structures. Tocanne is a
colorist and his palette  is one of the most impressive you can listen to in conducting this band. Firmly supported by the incisive playing of Michael Bates,
he lets a wide open melodic landscape where every note is a possible surprise. Both Samuel Blaser and Rémi Gaudillat solo are inventive over the harmonic
constructs. They wander around with the rythmic duet in an free contemporary interplay. Quite free together, they easily find the way of original and daring
expression with an unfailing cheerfulness which doesn't hide  their indisputable talent.
To look at them work on stage is a perfect plan to figure out how this
kind of jazz is healthy, still innovative and uncompromising. Bruno Tocanne's "new songs" quartet could be called "new ideas of a musical blend" and this
group is assuredly a good thing for everyone who like to besurprised and shaked up
